Annual Conferences

About

Annual conferences are designed to bring partners together to find out about best practice, discuss topical issues and share knowledge about waterways-related issues. They also enable the identification of potential projects, along with the sharing of local, regional and national best practice and potential funding programmes. The programmes and presentations from our past conferences can be accessed in the directory below.

Our last conference was held on Wednesday, 27 September 2017, at the Holiday Inn at Hull Marina. This event was organised in support of the Sullied Sediments project. The theme of the conference was best practice in catchment-level river management and our speakers included:

  • Rachel Walker, Don Catchment Rivers Trust, "The Living Heritage of the River Don: Engaging Communities and Partners in the Catchment"
  • Will Mayes, University of Hull, "Catchment-scale Approaches to Managing Metal Pollution"
  • Elisabeth Klocke, Elbe Habitat Foundation, "The Elbe Habitat Foundation – A Purposeful Communication Approach to Managing the Elbe"
  • Paul Kay, University of Leeds, "Catchment Sensitive Farming"

In addition, our Waterways Partnership Executive Committee Chair, Jeanette Rotchell, gave an update on the Sullied Sediments project, and delegates took part in practical demonstrations offered by the University of Hull's PhD students working on this project.

The 2017 conference was funded through the Sullied Sediments’project, which itself has been has been co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg VB North Sea Region Programme. For more information about Sullied Sediments, please visit the project web space:
