Mortimer's Heritage Project

Future Still to be Decided

Detailed planning for the future of the historic Mortimer’s Warehouse, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Resilient Heritage programme, has not been able to come up with a definite plan for how the building could be developed.

Since October 2018, Driffield Town Council has led a Steering Group comprising community members as well as representatives from local and national waterways organisations, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Driffield Local Growth Partnership, to look for viable options for giving the building a sustainable community use.

The Steering Group, working in close collaboration with the warehouse owners, used The National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to look at feasible options for the community use of the building, but sadly none have yet emerged.

The Clerk of Driffield Town Council said, “The outcome for all of us is disappointing, but we are grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for providing the funding for us to undertake the necessary business planning to see if we could make the project work.”

She went on to say, “On behalf of the Steering Group I’d like to thank the owners for their generous offer to the town and also, all the people who have expressed their interest in the project over the years. Despite the outcome, it has been a worthwhile process to go through and we have all learned a lot”.

A representative on behalf of the owners said, “We all hoped that Mortimer’s Warehouse could have been used for the benefit of the local community. However, despite all the effort put in by the Town Council and other partners this is not going to be possible at this time.”
